SAINTS CLINCH TOP SPOT ON OAFL DIV2 LADDER FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Final Scores
Québec Saints 2.4 5.8 8.8 10.9 (69)
Etobicoke Roos 0.0 0.0 0.2 0.2 (2)

The Québec Saints headed to their home away from home to take on a hybrid Roos team that would need to call on some reinforcements from the Swans to make their numbers. The cellar dwelling Roos were always going to have an uphill battle and the Saints were in no mood for mercy as they quickly took control of the match and moved the ball forward. Some sloppy play in front of goal by the Saints was easily overlooked as Beaman and Wilson kicked truly giving the Saints a 16 point quarter time lead.

The pain wouldn’t stop in the second as Lachy Trumble and Ronan Shaughnessy racked up possessions in the midfield. The Roos were getting their hands on the ball but simply could not get the ball forward of centre. Another three goals saw the inaccurate Saints move to a 38 point half time lead.

With the game safely in the bag the team line-up was reshuffled and many players found themselves in unfamiliar roles. Ash ‘Smasher’ Gasperino had been moved up forward and decided that playing the part of the small forward was simply not her style. Leading out from the square Smasher took two strong grabs straight in front. The first shot on goal missing to the left but the second sailing straight between the big sticks for her first goal for the Québec Saints.
The Roos were dead in their tracks but some fine work (suspiciously done by a few Saints) helped the Roos who were decked out in a clash strip finally get on the board registering two behinds. The Saints extending their lead to 54 points at the last change.

With the sting completely out of the game the fourth quarter Saints slipped into cruise control. Two more goals were added to the board, the Roos finally put out of their misery at the sound of the final siren. The Saints convincing victors running out 67 point winners. More impressively still was the defensive effort, the Saints conceding score lines of 0, 32, and 2, in their last three matches while piling on ten-plus goals in all three matches with scores of 88, 89 and 69.
