Match Summary:
The Saints arrived in Toronto under grey skies with one simple mission. Claim back top spot. The Toronto Central Blues sat atop the Division 2 table with a 5-2 record , 20 premiership points and 159%, the Saints were equal on wins but with a game in hand on 5-1, 20 premiership points, but an inferior percentage of 134%. A victory would give the Saints back first place. With percentage becoming an important issue every point would matter. Mat Wilson would miss due to an ankle injury while Pouessel, Beaman and Nixon all were unavailable for selection. However the Saints would still run onto the field with the best Toronto turn out since the ’09 Grand Final.

A light drizzle died away as the match got underway. Matt Wood immediately stamping his authority in the ruck. Darrin Haverhoek and Cam Stark the once again earning the first centre clearance and inside 50. The loose ball skidded in toward full-forward Anderson who diving forward punched the ball out toward Ronan Shaughnessy deep in the pocket. The Irishman scooping the ball up, steadying and then registering the Saints first goal of the term with less than a minute passed in the game. The dominance would continue for the Saints. Kyle Graham winning the hard ball through the middle in the greasy conditions. Another inside 50 from Haverhoek let Anderson take a mark running back with the flight of the ball 20 metres out. He converted as did Cam Stark soon after and the Saints had moved to a three goal break by the first changeover.

The second term started as the first one had ended, The Saints midfield crushing the Rebel Dogs. The Dogs weren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet however. Moving some tall timber into defence for the second term the Dogs began rebounding well off half back moving the ball along the wings and in toward their forward 50. The Saints half-back line of Bretiere, Lagace and Duff blanketed their opponents. Ever Rebel Dogs forward thrust was met with the trio’s suffocating defence, the half-back line repelling the ball on every occasion. Duff who was among the Saints best was not only spoiling the ball but then winning it at ground level moments later sending it straight back into the Saints forward line. Five goals to zero for the quarter gave the Saints a commanding 52 point half time lead, the Rebel Dogs yet to trouble the scoreboard.
For the third term the Rebel Dogs moved a loose man into defence to plug the flow of Saints goals. It didn’t work. Legault would add her second, Wood his second and Anderson kicked two to bring his tally to five for the day. Duff continued to rule the backline whilst unsung hero Ryan Oxley went about his usual task of quietly destroying the opposition with quality touches. J-R Theis continuing the Saints dominance in the ruck as Wood rested in the forward line. The Saints emerged from the third term 78 points in front, and although the Rebel Dogs had come extremely close on occasions they were still yet to score.

The Saints issues with accuracy in front of goal had seemingly been solved, remarkably kicking 12 goals 5 behinds up until the final term in the slippery conditions. The final term would see further Saints dominance but as if on cue the team added 1.5 for the term, Cam Stark kicking his second to be the only goal scorer for the quarter. The Saints running out 88 point victors 13.10 to no score.
