SAINTS FINISH SEASON OPENING ROAD TRIP WITH A 1-1 RECORD AFTER NARROW LOSS

The Quebec Saints headed into their round 3 top of the table clash against heavily undermanned and would have to rely on help from the Montreal Angels and partner club Eagles players to make up the numbers. Greg Bretiere, Ash Gasperino, Adam Gilmour, Dani Anderson and Lindsay Belzie would all make their 2010 season debuts for the Bleu et blanc who were playing for the first time at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus field.
Fighting for the "PARKER ANDERSON CUP" Luke Anderson won the toss for the Saints and elected to kick with the light breeze. The Saints with some excellent midfield work from Mat Wilson managed to get the ball forward where Eagles import "Cappa" slotted through the first of the game and gave the Quebec side the perfect start. The Blues hit back straight away. They started to find their feet, but solid backline work from Greg Bretiere and excellent defensive work from Ash Gasperino limited the Blues chances. They eventually put a major on the board and at quarter time the scores were locked at 8 a piece.

The Blues hit the second quarter running. Cam Stark was on fire in the middle for the Saints but lacked support and a focal point up forward. Two quick goals to the Blues gave them a handy lead, the Saints wasting their opportunities in front of goal eventually heading into the half-time break 11 points down, Saints 1.5 (11) to Blues 3.4 (22).

Kicking with the wind again in the third the Saints lack of a ruckman was clearly becoming evident as Canadian National team ruckman Chris Cunning gave the Blues first use of the ball. The midfield trio of Stark, Wilson and Gilmour were fighting hard to give Belzie and Dani Anderson opportunities up forward but the run of the Blues was proving to be a huge factor. Ash Gasperino and Mark Morin came up with some big plays in the backline for the Saints to hold the fort but the Saints had failed to captilize on the breeze and went into the final quarter 12 points down.

Fired up and ready for one last surge the Saints threw everything they had at the Blues in the opening minutes of the last term. A running goal from Luke Anderson was followed up by Cappa's second of the day and the Saints had drawn to within a few points. Jaye Macumber was a brick wall across the half-back line for the Blues repelling the frenzied Saints. The Quebec side looking dangerous again they lost possesion on a controversial umpiring decision. The Blues capatilized on the turn-over kicking a steadying goal and seemingly ended any hopes of a Saints comeback.
The Blues ran out deserving victors by 12 points
Blues 1.2 3.4 4.5 6.8 (44) defeated Saints 1.2 1.5 2.5 4.8 (32)
Goals: Saints Cappa 2, L.Anderson 1, Alex 1.
