Laval Bombers 1.1 3.2 6.5 8.8 (56)
Montréal Saints 2.1 4.2 5.4 8.5 (53)
Goals: Bombers – D.Barker 3, C.Stark 2, D.Haverhoek 1, A.Huggett 1, S.Blight 1. Saints – M.Wood 3, M.Wilson 3, M.Morin 1, C.Ferreri 1.
Controversy reigned supreme at the end of the Saints and Bombers first hit out of the year, but after a recount of the scores the initial result was reversed – and the Bombers finally recorded their first win of the year.
Under rainy skies that showed no hint of letting up the two teams went toe to toe in the first term. Carl Ferreri in career best form relishing the dominant ruck work of Saints big man Matt Wood in the middle. The Bombers Shane Blight playing his farewell match up forward was being blanketed by new recruit Adam Gilmour and although the Saints hadn’t made too much ground on the scoreboard they had the match firmly in control. Haverhoek, Stark and Barker kept the Bombers in the game until half time but key injuries to the Saints Ferreri and the Bombers Blight would change the dynamics of the game completely.
The third quarter commenced and the Bombers no longer looked to their spearhead up forward but swarmed into goal in packs. Barker slotted through one of his three goals helping the Red and Black to seize the momentum. Excellent work from Wilson and Morin couldn’t stem the tide as the Bombers slipped in front by 6 points. A heavy clash of heads between Saints Wilson and Heath who had been one of the Saints best yet again showed the intensity of the contest in the last term. Tempers flared as the Saints kicked three straight but were matched with three goals three to the Bombers. Roasty marking a wayward ball for the Saints along their half back preventing the Bombers from scoring again late in the quarter. The siren sounded to end a match that could have easily gone either way and leaving more questions than answers at the end of an engrossing hour of wet weather footy.
Power on top after win number two over the BombersLaval Bombers -.- 3.4 -.- 5.4 (34)
Pointe Claire Power -.- 4.3 -.- 6.5 (41)
Goals: Bombers – Barker 1, Blight 1, Stark 1, Haverhoek, M.Wilson*. Power – Beaman 3, Nixon 1, Pouessel 1, M.Legault 1
The Power took on the Bombers for the second time and made it a perfect two from two holding off the struggling former champs and securing top position on the ECAFL ladder.
With conditions only slightly better than the previous match the Bombers were left in limbo with a number of injuries forcing Shane Blight onto the field with literally one leg to stand on. The wiley Victorian showed one leg was just enough to slot through what would be his last ever ECAFL goal. The Bombers holding onto the Power until half time.

Tim Nixon and Ryan Oxley went about giving the Power complete control of the game but thanks to stellar performances once again by Stark and Haverhoek the Bombers refused to give in. Too much run and too much class this time provided by Paul Barrow and Cam Beaman kept the Power’s nose in front resisting every Bombers surge. The end of the match coming to the relief of all players who had battled through freezing conditions. Special thanks to the days umpires Ryan Oxley and Carl Ferreri for doing an outstanding job in the horrid conditions.
