The team had seven new players, a new 'clash' jersey and a new coach but after round one of the OAFL Division 2 season the result was very much the same - victory for the Saints.
In biting cold and greasy conditions the Saints hit the ground running. Luke Anderson
linked up well with Shane 'Malcolm' Blight as the Saints all-time leading goal scorer added another major to his tally and got the Saints 2010 campaign off to a flying start. The quarter was a tough battle with the Saints having a majority of the play but unable to capatilize on the scoreboard. Blight was having trouble holding marks in the slippery conditions and the Saints poor kicking for goal raised its ugly head - despite all these factors Quebec managed to head into quarter time with a 14 point lead.
The second quarter the Saints used a slight breeze to their advantage, The new midfield combination of Wood, Stark, Beaman and Wilson dominating centre clearances and helping the Saints extend their lead to 31 points by half time. The Roos didn't get any breathing space in the third either, Ryan Oxley, Paul Barrow, Nico Pouessel and Tim Nixon blanketing the Roos in defence. Cam 'Richo' Beaman added slotted through his third and fourth for the day and the Saints had bolted away to a 48 three quarter time lead.
The drain of a long road trip showed through in the last quarter, the Saints stopped the run and the Roos took full advantage putting through two goals in somewhat of a fight back. The margin was to great however. the Saints showing glimpses of the future when rookies Mark Morin, Nico Pouessel and Jason Hodgson linked through the midfield creating an inside 50 chance for the Saints. The Saints took the four points and top of the ladder with a hard earned 38 point victory.
